Readers Workshop

Readers Workshop is an hour long segment of our day in which we work with students to build reading skills and strategies.  The past two weeks we have had mini-lessons focusing on the following:

• Readers get excited about books by finding them in the classroom library and by going on reading adventures.
• Readers read books by: reading the words, reading the pictures, and retelling the story.
• Readers get excited by learning to read for different purposes (enjoyment, information,etc.)
• Readers get excited about books by reading favorite books and concept books.
• Readers can choose a book by looking at the front cover.
• Readers can pretend they are the characters by studying the illustrations.
• Readers take care of books by turning the pages carefully and storing our books properly.
